Rigid Heddle

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Today, it snowed in our part of the world.
With the fire blazing in the wood stove, I decided to weave a candy cane scarf on my 10" Schacht Cricket rigid heddle loom. The warp is Lion Brand Homespun and the weft is worsted weight in alternating white and red.

I warped my loom with 12 white, 12 red across an 8 dent reed. There are 60 ends.

Using the single peg method, I measured my warp at 102 inches with the finished piece measuring 81 inches.

When the warp threads are in the up position, there are 6 threads of white/red going across.
I wove 8 rows of white and 8 rows of red.

Weaving this scarf was very easy and fast. It took me a day to warp and weave. The weft was gently beaten. I also carried the weft up both sides of the weaving. Here is a close up of the selvedge on the right side. I have noticed that when the weft is thinner than the warp, that the selvedge edge looks cleaner. I have decided not to do a single crochet edge. If you don't like the edge, you could choose red or white to single crochet up both sides of the scarf.

This scarf is light but warm and very soft! With the holidays coming up, this would make the perfect gift to make for that someone special in your life. I made a YouTube tutorial which can be found here. This video shows how to carry the color up both sides of your work and how to fix sticky yarn mistakes.

Happy Weaving!
